Yosemite National Park is set whithin Sierra Nevada mountains in California, United States.

Yosemite is recognised for its spetacular granite cliffs, waterfalls, clear streams giant sequoia groves and biological diversity.

Yosemite area is characterised by granite rocks and remnants of older rock. About 10 million years ago, the Sierra Nevada was uplifted and then tilted to form its gentle western slopes and the more dramatic eastern slopes.

The name Yosemite meaning "killer" in Miwok originally referred to the name of a renegade tribe which was probably annihilated, before it was called "Ahwahnee" meaning "big mouth" by indigenous people.
