JAIPUR
"Once a year, go someplace you've never been before."
Dalai Lama
HELLO THERE!
Jaipur is the capital of the state Rajasthan in India. It sits within what is known as the Golden Triangle.
Jaipur is often called "Pink City" due to its distinctly coloured pink buildings in the Old city which were originally painted to replicate the red sandstone of Mughal cities. The buildings were subsequently repainted to the current colour for a visit by the Prince of Wales in 1876. The tradition has been maintained and today all residents in the old city are compelled by law to preserve the pink colour.
City Palace is a palace complex including "Chandra Mahal" which now houses a museum but the greatest part of it is still a royal residence.
The Amber Fort or Amber Palace is one of the oldest buidings in Rajasthan. The 16th Century construction stands as a royal symbol reflecting the Rajputana culture and heritage.
