Chichen Itza is a complex of Mayan ruins located in Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico.

The steeped pyramids, temples, columned arcades and other stone structures were sacred to the  Maya and a centre to their empire from A.D. 600 to 1200.

Chichen Itza was one of the largest Maya cities, covering an area of at least 5km2 and with densely clustered architecture. The site contains many fine stone buildings with graphic stone carvings like Temple of Warriors, Wall of skulls and massive stepped pyramid known as El Castillo.

The Maya was a mesoamerican civilization, noted for the Maya script, the only known fuly developed writing system of the pre-Columbian Americas, as well for its art, architecture, mathematical and astronomial systems.

Chichen Itza is a UNESCO World Heritage Site as well as one of the New7wonders of the world.
